This week is the famed Tour of California bike race and Hibiscus iWear was lucky enough to be able to attend the stage 2 finish of the race to scope out the competition. And by competition I strictly mean eyewear. What I love about the cycling world is how diverse the eyewear trends are. In the triathlon world there’s a little competition but let’s be honest- Oakley dominates the scene. I mean who doesn’t love a great pair of Jawbones? However in the cycling world- or at least what I witnessed this Monday- is what a grab bag of performance shades the cycling world is. Sure there were Oakley’s right and left but I was basking in a smorgasbord of Tifosi’s, Ryders and everything in between. The one trend that stood out like a sore thumb? Candy color lenses! The days of black on black seem to be over. Every pack of riders coming into the Tour of California finish chute was a rainbow whirlwind of professional cyclists. Don’t believe me? See for yourself.

VonZipper Sunglasses Among Our Favorites? You Decide…
Happy Friday! This week has been a hectic one at the Hibiscus Headquarters with lots of revamping of our site and beyond, all for you guys! Call it spring cleaning, call it sprucing up for summer, call it whatever you want but we’ve got one seriously user friendly site going on. One major benefit to make things easier on you is our sassed up Shop By Style section. Between our Sizzling Summer Sunglasses section (say that 10 times fast) or Active Lifestyle section you’re sure to find what you’re looking for.
And then there’s my favorite upgrade- our newest addition- the Stay Connected tab! Ok so maybe I’m a little biased but this section is rad. You’ll find every single one of our social media sites right there in one place. From our favorite Tweets to your favorite Instagram photos, it’s all there. You’ll never miss an announcement, giveaway or fab photo again!
So after all of the madness getting this done I wanted to end the week on a high note with a few of our favorite photos. What spurred this (and maybe it’s just me) but every time I look at this collection of sunglasses I can’t help hear the jingle “these are a few of my fav-or-ite things” in my head. (yea just me? thought so…)

An iWear-Style Congrats to Heather Jackson On Her Wildflower Win!
We felt the congratulations that were in order for triathlete Heather Jackson were more than worthy of a blog post from us. Finally scoring her breakthrough win at this past weekend’s Wildflower triathlon, we are more than ecstatic for this well deserving athlete! Ok, so maybe we are a little biased NOPE this is just down right AWESOME- not only did Heather win by over 6 minutes, but she smashed the course record as well! Here is a phenomenal video from 3/GO Triathlon by Verdict Digital of Heather’s winning race.
I’d love to sit here and tell you some amazing tales of how HJ’s sunglasses were a pinnacle part of her race day success but unfortunately this race day scenario did not fall into that category. In fact, after speaking with her post-race all I got out of her was a sad story of how she hit a huge pothole right at the beginning of the bike knocking her custom, perscription Oakley Radars (ahh the perks of being a professional athlete) onto the ground. Only to later have a kind gentlemen call out to her in T2 that she lost her shades and have them tossed back to her for the run.
{One of the few shots caught of HJ flying by the competition in her Oakley’s. Photo compliments of Wattie Ink}
Now in an attempt to make up for that anticlimactic story I requested a photo of her in some casual shades or really anything. This is what I got…
I’m not sure if she was trying to show me her signature prescription eyewear (which I appreciate) or her post-camping dreadlocks that she was using to the block the sun instead of her sunglasses (a method we DO NOT condone here at Hibiscus iWear). Nonetheless- congrats Heather and we know there will be many more W’s in your future!!
What Do Your Sunglasses Say About You?
I recently asked the Wattie Ink Elite Triathlon team for a write up on their experiences with sunglasses. Everyone has them so why not tap into this group where eyewear is an extremely integral part of their daily training sessions?! I mean these people know what they are talking about! One response really caught my eye because it so perfectly summed up what sunglasses are really there for and all of the wonderful benefits they offer.
Catherine wrote this:
“Quick little facts that I love about my sunglasses. Two pair in the car, one in my purse, two for working out and one in the beach bag. Can’t have enough, just a natural habit I have made to make sure my eyes are covered when I’m outside sunny, cloudy, car or the beach. I wear contacts so when I’m biking or running I have my Oakley Half Jackets on, it keeps the wind, pollen and bugs out of my eyes. When I’m running a marathon it keeps the sports drinks out of my eyes and focus on the road. Most importantly sunglasses keeps the glare down so I’m not spending energy squinting.”
{Pick Oakley for performance and you can’t go wrong.}
Short, sweet and to the point. Am I right or am I right? Each pair serve their purpose- from Oakley’s keeping the bugs and pollen out while you’re screaming down the road on your bike to candy coated, mirror lensed VonZipper’s keeping you covered in style while lounging on the beach. Sure it’s just fine to use one pair for all purposes but whoever started the saying the more the merrier was definitely talking about sunglasses!
{Did someone say mirror lenses? The VonZipper Frosteez collection has it hooked up!}
And The Winner Is…
Another month has come and gone and once again was chock full of great results from the Wattie Ink Elite Triathlon team. Today we want to congratulate Drew Heidman for being this month’s winner in our Hibiscus iWear sponsorship bonus program! His outstanding results at last weekend’s St. Anthony’s 5150 triathlon were more than enough to get his name in the Hibiscus iWear hat! Drew’s trailblazing time of 2:02:00 was good enough for a 1st place age group and 16th place overall amateur finish!
Helping him along the way to this stellar performance were his Tifosi Slip sunglasses. A big advocate for interchangeable lenses, Heidman is first in line to recommend Tifosi’s to fellow athletes primarily for their super easy interchangeable lens systems. Whether it’s a training day or race day Heidman says of Tifosi sunglasses- “the interchangeability allows me to adjust my eyewear to environmental conditions on the day. Interchangeability allows me to safely have the right level of eye protection from an early morning ride to a midafternoon run. Multiple lens options are a must for me when I am selecting a pair of performance sunglasses!” We couldn’t have said it better our self Drew!

{Drew goes for Oakley Fuel Cells for his post-race casual sunglasses. A killer choice in our book!}
Congrats to Drew and all of the other Wattie Ink Elite Athletes that raced this month! Keep on rocking!
